When one thinks of Cuba, one is immediately reminded of beautiful beaches, hot rods, and interestingly enough, cigars.
But how did this come to be? How did the country grow to become dominated by the tobacco industry? And, perhaps most importantly, what social, political, and economic factors contributed to the emergence of the cigar as a metonym for the broader Cuban culture, or Cubanidad?
